The AGM according to the president Santigie Kargbo will enlighten SLUDI members on progress of the union, current projects and future priorities.
He said through team work and effective collaboration with the Ministry of Social Welfare, the Union has taken the lead in advocating for persons with disabilities, to gain more access to education, free medical services, livelihood skills and social protection.
Chairman SLUDI Western Region Alie Sesay, said he was pleased for the interaction with other members and as they were able to sound their opinions collectively.
He continued that, even though the current president has done a lot for disables in the western rural district, yet they need more intervention from government and other partners to remove their colleagues from the streets, since some of them still rely on street begging to survive.
According to the women, disables in the country especially in the regions face a lot of challenges, citing neglect from the male counterpart who hardly considered them in decisions making.
Adding that, the AGM is a brilliant idea from SLUDI as it will advocate on their behalf to address their dire needs ranging from empowerment and adult literacy among other facilities.
The meeting ended with an election, and Santigie Kargbo was reelected president of SLUDI.
