
The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ambassador Abubakarr Karim has announced that an Anthrax disease outbreak that attacks animals has been confirmed in Port Loko District.
Anthrax is a serious infectious disease that commonly affects farms, domestic, and animals.
According to the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ambassador Abubakarr Karim people can get sick with Anthrax disease if they come in contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products.
He said the disease could cause several illnesses in both humans and animals; however, it is a treatable condition.
He called on the public to inform officials of the Ministries of Agriculture and Health if found any dead animals, especially in affected chiefdoms in Kamasondo and Port Loko District.
He assured of the Ministry’s partnership with the Ministry of Health to ensure appropriate measures are instituted to secure the spread of the disease, noting that all livestock markets have been closed and called on the public to abstain from eating goats, sheep, and other cattle animals.
Anthrax disease can affect farms and causes the severe disease to a human.
The Ministries of Agriculture and Health advise the public not to administer treatment to any sick animals
