
The Deputy Minister of Justice Umaru Napoleon Koroma has laid the Public Elections Local Councils Proportional Representation System Regulations 2022 and the Public Elections District Block Proportional Representation System Regulations 2022 in the Well of Parliament after a standoff between Lawmakers of the Ruling SLPP and the main Opposition APC.
The standoff ensued on constitutional interpretations between the Acting Leader of the main opposition APC Hon. Hassan Priest Sesay and the Leader of Government Business Hon. Mathew Nyuma relating on procedures before the regulations to be laid in Parliament, Speaker Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu overruled and asked the Deputy Minister of Justice to continue laying the instruments.
After back and forth the Clerk of parliament Hon. Umaru Paran Tarawallie quoted the relevant standing orders and with the support from the security personnel was able to bring normalcy in the chamber of parliament.
A motion was however moved by Hon. Musa Fofanah of C4C for the regulations to be debated.
