Women in the Media Sierra Leone have condemned cyber bullying against Female journalist. In a press statement released yesterday regarding a video making rounds on social media platforms in which a former President of WIMSAL and station manager of 98.1, Asmaa James was verbally assaulted and threatened by musician Alhaji Amadu Bah commonly known as “LAJ” .
The release stated that according to investigations, LAJ’s outbursts came after radio Democracy 98.1 aired a news story involving the musician, a professional responsibility of every media institution to inform the public on happenings around the country including court proceedings.
As an organisation that seeks the welfare of all female journalists in Sierra Leone, The release continues that the organization view this intimidation as an attempt to silence female journalists and further discourage women from entering into public life.
Meanwhile LAJ has made a public apology on Social Media platforms stating regret at his appalling behavior, whilst acknowledging the fact that he is not mentally unstable taking into consideration what he has been through over the years.
