As part of efforts to restore faith in the 2030 Agenda, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and his entourage have arrived in New York for the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
The President is expected to actively engage his fellow Heads of State, government representatives attending the UNGA, Heads of international financial institutions, Philanthropic Organizations, and the media under the theme “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability for All.”
President Julius Maada Bio will highlight Sierra Leone’s development achievements and his government’s plan for long-term, sustainable change. Prior to Sierra Leone’s service as a Non-Permanent member of the UN Security Council for the year 2024–2025, he would also interact with important stakeholders.
In August 2024, Sierra Leone is anticipated to take over as UN Security Council President. As a sign of respect for the tiny West African nation, 188 out of 193 UN member states chose the country to be reinstated to the Council in that category after 53 years.
Sierra Leone has joined the major organization for upholding international order, joining nations like Algeria, Guyana, Republic of Korea, and Slovenia.
“The high-level observance of the fourth International Day to Protect Education from Attack co-organised by UNESCO, the state of Qatar, Education Above All Foundation, UNICEF, and the United Nations Department of Global Communications,” is one of President Bio’s major high-level speaking engagements at UNGA78.

In his capacity as co-chair of the high-level steering committee for the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), he stated, “The SDG summit acceleration day: high impact effort on changing education.
“The high-level political forum on sustainable development in his capacity as chair of the group of seven plus (g7+) countries”.
