President Julius Maada Bio joined forces with fellow Heads of State at the World Bank International Development Association 21st summit in Nairobi, Kenya. Their mission was to pave the way for a new era of development financing in Africa. The move will set the stage for transformational change across the continent.

World Bank President, Ajay Banga echoed the sentiments of collective commitment. He stressed the IDA’s unwavering dedication as a partner in Africa’s journey towards development. He outlined a vision for a more efficient and impactful IDA, emphasizing the need for streamlined processes to deliver crucial support in key areas such as access to energy, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.

President of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto, emphasized the importance of securing increased funding for the IDA’s 21st cycle. He rallied fellow leaders to prioritize Africa’s development challenges and opportunities. He also urged donors to step up their support for a brighter future across the continent.

President Julius Maada Bio painted a blunt picture of Africa at a crossroads. From the fallout of COVID-19 to rising debt, political instability, and the looming specter of climate change, the continent faces unprecedented challenges. President Bio stressed the urgent need for innovative financing mechanisms, calling for a renewed focus on good governance, transparency, and accountability as the cornerstones of progress.

As the summit closed, a new coalition emerges—a coalition of civil society, foundations, the private sector, and young people united in a common cause.
