In Sierra Leone, cancer is an escalating concern. In 2020, the country reported over 4,000 new cancer cases, with women disproportionately affected by breast and cervical cancers. This alarming statistics comes from the International Agency for Research on Cancer’s GLOBOCAN report.

The First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio, addressed this issue at a high-level regional seminar in Abuja, Nigeria. The meeting aimed to promote cancer awareness and advocacy among Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) member states.
